Addendum: “Fetials” may be interchangeable with “Factors”, and they are very carefully augmented to appear as approachable and charming as possible to Imperial diplomats. They are trained in the customs, laws, behaviour, hierarchies, etc. of the Imperium and use this knowledge to interact on political terms.

In the Divisio Militaris, there are also “Praetors”, which can range from very high-ranking, elite squads of Skitarii to huge vat-grown killing machines. Depends on the planet or the army, I suppose.

Also keep in mind the most important military faction of the Mechanicus; the Collegia Titanica and their titans / crews. Knight class, warhound, warlord, emperor - and rumours of others. Each piloted by any number of enormously skilled individuals; the princeps at the head, a moderati, sensori, weapon-servitors, titan enginseer, and others. The Collegia Titanica and it’s men are often considered a ‘group apart’ from the rest of the Mechanicus, as they devote their lives to necessary destruction as opposed to the search for knowledge.

There is also the Divisio Extremis, which works as the Mechanicus’ own form of Inquisition.

I could go on for hours so I’m going to stop now while I still have the chance, lol.

Enginseers and Explorators are similar in that it’s often where troublemakers/weirdos are shuffled off to so the Magi/Fabricators don’t have to deal with them anymore. Who gets which designation depends on how much trouble they make (Explorators are much more trouble. As in explosions.). Enginseers are the ones who interact the most with non-Mechanicus members, normally; they’re attached to Imperial Guardsmen companies or other Adeptus(es?)- they tend to work outside Machine Cult culture and direct control. Explorators are almost explicitly outside of direct Machine Cult control, and often end up working with Rogue Traders for the simple fact that Traders get in a lot of trouble and see a lot of things. Trouble and “things” usually ends up with new things for the Cult. Arguably, a net good.
